Pathfinder
Updated 2026-07-20
What it is
Pathfinder is the suite's live MIDI router and mapping archive tool. It routes MIDI between hardware and virtual ports, lets you edit mapping grids and a crosspoint matrix, manage presets, and round-trip Resolume Arena MIDI shortcut presets. It also acts as the suite's coordination service, tracking which app owns which controller and flagging address collisions.
Requirements
- macOS
- MIDI hardware and/or virtual MIDI ports you want to route between
- The app listens on port 5690 for the suite coordination service (used for suite-wide device coordination, not required for standalone routing)
Install & first run
- Download Pathfinder from the Mac App Store.
- Open the app.
- Connect your MIDI hardware and/or set up virtual ports.
- Build routes and mapping grids in the Signal Map / Matrix views.
- Save presets for setups you'll reuse.
Common questions
Does Pathfinder carry my live show signal?
No. As the suite coordination service, it observes and tracks device ownership — it does not sit in your show's live signal path.
Can I export my routing/mapping grid?
Yes — the crosspoint matrix supports CSV, XLSX, and PDF export.
Does it work with Resolume Arena?
Yes — it can round-trip Resolume Arena MIDI shortcut presets.
Is it free?
Yes, per the current product listing Pathfinder is free.
Troubleshooting
Two apps are fighting over the same MIDI device. Pathfinder's coordination service tracks which app owns which controller and flags address collisions — check the app for a collision warning before troubleshooting further.
The app doesn't appear to be coordinating with other suite apps. Confirm the app is running and reachable on its coordination port (5690); this service is separate from standalone MIDI routing, which works without it.
Signal Map, Matrix, or Mappings views look wrong with real hardware connected. This is an area that has had limited real-device verification in past releases — confirm your MIDI hardware is properly connected and recognized by macOS first, then contact support if the views still don't reflect it correctly.
The installed app seems out of date. Check for updates in the Mac App Store and install the latest version from there.
Known limitations
- The coordination service (used for suite-wide device tracking) currently needs to be running as its own process — it is not automatically launched by the main app in every configuration.
- Real-device visual verification of the newest UI (Signal Map / Matrix with live hardware) has been an open item in past release audits — if a view looks incorrect with your specific hardware, please report it.
