Performance Editor: Mastermind

What it is

Performance Editor: Mastermind is a modern editor for the RJM Mastermind GT MIDI foot controller. Open a .rjs settings file — or connect the pedal over USB-MIDI and pull its settings live — and see the whole rig on one screen: the pedal's front panel drawn with your real switch labels and LED colors, plus full views of your presets, songs, setlists, devices, sysex, macros and global settings. Edit, then write your changes back to the pedal.

Requirements

• Mac, or iPad (with a USB connection to the pedal for live sync)
• An RJM Mastermind GT foot controller, connected over USB, for live pull and write-back
• No pedal needed to browse or edit a .rjs file — the file path works entirely offline

Install & first run

1. Download the app from the App Store (Mac or iPad).
2. On launch you'll see the editor workspace. Open a .rjs settings file exported from your pedal or from RJM's editor, or —
3. Connect your Mastermind GT over USB and click Connect. The app performs the pedal's own handshake, pulls every settings record, verifies each one against its checksum, and populates the interface.
4. Click any switch on the on-screen pedal surface to edit it — name, type, on/off LED colors, and its MIDI action.
5. When you're ready, write your changes back to the pedal from the app. Keep a .rjs backup of your rig first (good practice before any settings write, with any editor).

Common questions

Does it replace RJM's official MMGTEditor?

For everyday editing, yes — it reads the same .rjs files and talks to the pedal over the same USB-MIDI protocol, with a single-screen interface built for live musicians.

Can I use it without the pedal plugged in?

Yes. Opening and editing .rjs files works entirely offline. The pedal is only needed for live pull and write-back.

Are my settings sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens between the app, your files, and your pedal over your own USB connection. The app makes no network requests.

Which hardware is supported?

The Mastermind GT family, developed and verified against a Mastermind GT/16 on recent firmware. GT/10 and GT/22 layouts are planned.

Troubleshooting

The pedal doesn't appear when I click Connect. Check the USB cable and that the pedal shows up as a MIDI device (its ports are named "Mastermind GT MMGT"). Quit other MIDI utilities that may be holding or scanning the ports, then try again.

Connect worked before but now the pedal isn't responding. Other MIDI software talking to the pedal at the same time can wedge its USB-MIDI session. Quit other MIDI apps, unplug and replug the USB cable (or power-cycle the pedal), and connect again.

A pull looks wrong or incomplete. Disconnect, wait a moment, and pull again with other MIDI apps closed. Every record is checksum-verified, so the app will not silently accept corrupted data.

Known limitations

• Firmware updating and the sysex librarian import are not part of this release — use RJM's tools for firmware.
• GT/10 and GT/22 front-panel layouts are not yet drawn (the data still loads).
