Answer
My MIDI controller isn't being recognized — what do I check?

If a MIDI controller, footswitch, or connected device (like a Roland SPD-SX in ARCHITECT) isn't showing up or isn't responding the way you expect, it's usually a connection or mapping issue rather than a problem with the app itself.
- Connect your controller over wired USB MIDI before opening the app — several apps (including Rundown) require a wired connection for show use and don't use Bluetooth.
- Confirm the controller shows up in your Mac's Audio MIDI Setup before trying to use it in the app, especially before using a MIDI learn feature.
- If you're using a specific control surface (for example an APC Mini with Cycle, or a class-compliant controller like malletSTATION/MalletKAT with Pit), check that it's the primary supported controller for that feature — other controllers may need their own mapping set up first.
- For pedals (sustain/expression) or footswitches, make sure they're plugged into the controller itself if your controller requires that, and confirm they're recognized as MIDI or class-compliant devices before starting a show.
- If a hardware device connects over USB for editing (like ARCHITECT with an SPD-SX), close any other program that might also be talking to that device — most of these connections only support one program at a time.
- If the device still doesn't appear, try reconnecting it after the app is already open, and check the app's device or port list to confirm it's selected there.
