Answer
Why aren't my Performance Percussion apps finding each other on the network?

Several Performance Percussion apps talk to each other and to network MIDI gear automatically over your local network — for example Rundown driving Backline, Cycle, or Outs, or smaRTPath connecting to RTP-MIDI devices. When that connection doesn't happen, it's almost always a network or firewall issue rather than a bug in any one app.
- Make sure every app (and any hardware, like a Raspberry Pi player) is on the same local network — different Wi-Fi networks or a guest network will block discovery.
- Check that no firewall on your Mac or router is blocking local network traffic; this is the most common cause of apps not seeing each other.
- If you're prompted for "local network permission" the first time an app opens (common on iPad), allow it — discovery won't work without it.
- For apps that use a specific port for coordination (for example Backline listens on OSC UDP port 5685, and Pathfinder's coordination service uses port 5690), confirm that port isn't being blocked.
- For network MIDI (RTP-MIDI/AppleMIDI) devices specifically, use smaRTPath — it shows every device and session on your network and tells you in plain English why a connection failed if one doesn't come up.
- If a device or app was renamed or dropped off discovery, reopen the relevant app and reconnect — some apps (like smaRTPath) will auto-recover a renamed connection, but this isn't guaranteed everywhere yet.
