Rundown 1.0 on Mac

Rundown turns the named locators in an Ableton Live set into a running order. Import songs, arrange tonight's set and launch each song by name. The Mac app works on its own; Rundown Remote is an optional, separately purchased iPad companion.

The first App Store releases of Rundown and Rundown Remote are awaiting Apple review. These instructions cover Mac build 15 and iPad build 6.

Requirements

• Rundown: macOS 12 or later, on Intel or Apple silicon.
• Rundown Remote: iPadOS 16 or later, plus Rundown on a Mac. Both devices must be on the same trusted local network.
• Ableton Live is needed to control a real performance. The built-in sample set works without Live, MIDI equipment or an account.

Try the sample set

1. Open Rundown on your Mac. Close setup to reach the set builder.
2. Under All songs, choose Try a sample set. Eight examples appear. You can reorder or rename songs and your changes save automatically.
3. Choose Start show. Previous and Next change the queue. GO starts the queued sample song and advances the queue. Stop requires two presses. Sample mode sends no commands to Live or MIDI.
4. Choose Edit set to return, or Remove sample songs when you are finished exploring.

Connect Ableton Live

1. In Rundown's Setup, install the included RundownSync Remote Script. Choose Live's User Library / Remote Scripts folder when prompted, then restart Live.
2. In Live's Settings > Tempo & MIDI (Link / Tempo / MIDI on older versions), choose RundownSync in a Control Surface row. Set both Input and Output to Rundown Sync.
3. Open Arrangement view with named locators. In Rundown, choose Import songs from Live, build the set and choose Start show.
4. GO launches the queued locator. Loop and Exit loop control the current section. Stop requires two presses. Rundown controls Live; it does not generate audio.

Connect Rundown Remote on iPad

1. Install the Mac and iPad apps and connect both devices to the same trusted local network.
2. Choose Connect iPad at the top of Rundown on Mac. Allow Local Network access if requested.
3. Open Rundown Remote on iPad and allow Local Network access. A sole Mac connects automatically. If more than one is available, choose your Mac.
4. The large header shows the playing song. Up next shows the queued song. Previous, Next, GO and two-press Stop control the Mac.
5. To turn Remote off, click Remote on or iPad connected in the Mac header and disable it. Remote starts off every time the Mac app launches.

No account or pairing code is used. Enable Remote only on a network you trust: a local iPad can join while it is enabled. One iPad controls a Mac at a time. Setlist status and commands travel directly between your devices; there is no cloud service or audio streaming.

MIDI controllers

Right-click Previous, Next, GO or Stop and choose Assign controller, then press the pad, key or switch you want to use. Setup > MIDI controllers controls which inputs are enabled. Assignments are saved automatically.

Troubleshooting

The iPad cannot find the Mac. Check that Remote is enabled on the Mac, both devices are on the same local network, and Local Network access is allowed in system settings. Guest Wi-Fi or client isolation can prevent devices from reaching each other.

The connection was interrupted. Reopen Remote after the network returns. It resumes discovery and reconnects to the remembered Mac. Controls are unavailable while disconnected and old commands are not replayed.

Live does not respond. Check the RundownSync Control Surface row and both Rundown Sync MIDI ports, then restart Live after installing the script. Import named Arrangement locators before building the set.

A controller does not respond. Check its connection and confirm that its input is enabled in Rundown's MIDI controllers settings. Reassign the desired action if needed.
