Performance Editor: Helix

Updated 2026-07-30

What it is

Performance Editor: Helix is a preset and setlist editor for the Line 6 Helix, with a built-in MIDI CC remote. Import the preset and setlist files from your pedal, see and edit what's in them, and switch presets or sweep controls from your device over MIDI — without opening a laptop mid-show.

Requirements

Install & first run

  1. Download Performance Editor: Helix from the Mac App Store (or the App Store on iPad/iPhone).
  2. Import a preset or setlist file from your Helix — AirDrop and the Files app both work on iPad/iPhone.
  3. Open a preset to see its blocks — amp model, cab, and effect order as they are on the pedal.
  4. Make an edit, save, and export; the exported file loads back into HX Edit or the pedal.
  5. To use the MIDI remote, connect your device to the Helix and send a preset change to confirm the link.

Common questions

Does it replace HX Edit?

No. It's a companion for editing and stage use. Files you export load back into HX Edit or the pedal unchanged apart from your edits.

What files does it open?

Line 6 Helix preset (.hlx) and setlist files. If you hand it something else, it refuses the file rather than guessing.

Does it change my presets behind my back?

No. Nothing is written until you save and export, and the round trip is designed to be byte-faithful — what you didn't touch stays exactly as it was.

Does it need an internet connection or an account?

No. There is no account, no sign-in, and the app sends us nothing.

Troubleshooting

The pedal doesn't respond to the MIDI remote. Check the USB or MIDI-interface cable and confirm the Helix is set to receive on the channel the app is sending. Send a preset change first — it's the easiest signal to verify.

The connection dropped mid-session. Plug the cable back in; the app recovers without a restart. If it doesn't, close and reopen the app.

A file won't import. Confirm it's a real Helix preset or setlist exported from the pedal or HX Edit. Renamed or foreign files are rejected on purpose.

An exported preset looks wrong on the pedal. Load the same file into HX Edit and compare. If HX Edit shows the problem too, email us the file — a round-trip fault is the highest-priority bug we can fix.
